WYNOT — Wynot used a strong second-half surge to rally past Walthill, 48-41, in the opening round of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament on Feb. 2.
The Lady Blue Jays carried a four-point halftime lead, but the Lady Blue Devils answered with a dominant third quarter and closed the door late to advance to the next round, where they will face Bloomfield.
Walthill featured a balanced scoring attack with three players in double figures. Kaitlyn Miller led the way with 11 points, while Brooklyn Monroy and Aubry Pilcher each added 10.
Kenna Oligmueller paced Wynot with a game-high 15 points and nine rebounds. Haley Wieseler added 10 points in the win.
The teams traded baskets in the opening quarter. Oligmueller scored four points and Addison Sharpe connected from long range for Wynot, while Monroy and Pilcher each drained a three-pointer for Walthill as the game was tied 10-10 after one.
Walthill edged ahead in the second quarter with a 13-9 run. Monroy buried two three-pointers and Pilcher scored five points as the Lady Jays built a 23-19 halftime advantage. Wieseler scored four points in the period for Wynot, and Sharpe added her second trey.
Wynot seized control in the third quarter with a 14-6 run. Oligmueller poured in nine points during the stretch, while Kiera Heimes and Makenzie Foxhoven each added a basket to give the Blue Devils the momentum entering the final frame.
Miller scored seven fourth-quarter points to keep Walthill within striking distance, but Wynot answered with five points from Wieseler, four from Jordan Foxhoven and a three-pointer by Makenzie Foxhoven to secure the 48-41 victory.
