Cost share opportunities available for area farmers, ranchers

HARTINGTON — The Lewis and Clark Natural Resources District is offering multiple cost-share opportunities through the Water Resources Technology and Conservation Program to support agricultural producers and ranchers to adopt practices that improve irrigation efficiency, conserve water resources, and protect groundwater and surface water quality.

All district producers are eligible to apply, with a focus on producers operating in areas within the Bow Creek Watershed, Bazile Groundwater Management Area, and designated Wellhead Protection Areas. The program provides incentive payments and/ or cost-share assistance up to 75 percent for approved irrigation technologies, water management tools, and conservation practices designed to support resource protection.

“The incentive and cost-share are intended to help producers adopt proven technologies and conservation practices that benefit both their operations and long-term water sustainability,” said Myles Lammers, LCNRD Assistant Manager. “Cost-share assistance helps reduce financial barriers while encouraging water efficiency, protecting our natural resources.”

LCNRD notes that thoughtful use of technology and conservation practices can significantly reduce nitrate leaching and conserve irrigation water. Similar initiatives in other Nebraska NRDs have shown measurable improvements in water sustainability, demonstrating the value of proactive management.

LCNRD is hosting two informational meetings about the new Water Resources Technology & Conservation Program. These meetings will highlight tools and practices that support in-season irrigation management and soil moisture monitoring.

The luncheons provide an opportunity for producers and ranchers to learn how LCNRD can support in-season irrigation management and enhance overall resource stewardship. Attendees will receive program details, have an opportunity to ask questions, and learn how to participate in the new program.

RSVPs are encouraged at 4022546758, but walk-ins are welcome.

If you are unable to attend the luncheons and would like more information, stop in at the office or call 402-254-6758.
