1936: Bulldog basketball team tops Holy Trinity

Feb. 13, 1936

COLERIDGE - The pheasant, the most gorgeous and most hunted game birds ever to inhabit this state, have suffered greatly because of the intense winter. Every day reports come to this office of pheasants found frozen to death. They are not starving, farmers tells us, because many have found their crops well filled with corn.

Sportsmen fear the casualties among the population may necessitate a closed season for several years. Should mild weather come, and come soon, many of these birds will be saved. But it is unreasonable to believe they can endure the snow and cold much longer.

If farmers or others know of hungry flocks of pheasants please call at the Blade office. Funds left over from last winter are still available and when these are depleted more will be solicited from Coleridge sportsmen.

And all of this reminds us that the laws of Nature, have and still do, govern “surpluses.”

COLERIDGE - The Bulldogs journeyed to Hartington last Friday and came home with another victory over Trinity to add to their list.

The game was interesting from start to finish. The Coleridge five worked well by streaks, running up a fair lead only to slacken their pace when ahead and allow Trinity to catch up. This happened three times during the game.

The first quarter ended 6 all, the half 12 to 12 and the third quarter 15 to 16 for Trinity. Here the Bulldogs took command of the situation and almost kept the ball the last eight minutes running up a safe lead which was growing larger as the game ended.
