LCC girls end mat season at Districts

PLAINVIEW - The Laurel-Concord- Coleridge Lady Bear wrestling squad saw their season come to an end at the B-1 District Girls Wrestling Tournament Feb. 7 as the team finished 27th out of 36 teams competing in the tournament.

West Point-Beemer won the B-1 crown with 131 points, Yutan was second with 125 and Plainview/Osmond was third with 90 points.

The four LCC wrestlers posted a team score of nine points which placed the quartet in that 27th position.

Tae Settje at 120 pounds finished just one win away from a trip to next week’s state tournament as she was beaten in the consolation round after going 2-2 on the day.

Settje lost her opening round match to a Tekamah-Herman wrestler before winning her first consolation bout by pinning Baden Monroe of Fillmore Central and pinned Mackenzie Wiese of Newman Grove/St. Edward to arrive in the “heartbreak” round which. With a win, would have punched her ticket to Omaha.

Lailah Jones of Broken Bow pinned Settje late in the match to end Settje’s hopes for continuing her season.

Grace Galvin at 140 pounds won her second match of the tournament but dropped her opener and her third bout to end her season.

Ava Christiansen (130) and Justice Olson (135) also wrestled for the Lady Bears at the district meet.
