HARTINGTON — The Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats defeated the Summerland Bobcats in a consolation game in the Greater Northeast Activities Conference Tournament Feb. 5, 52-43.
The Wildcats used a good second quarter to grab a lead then held on for the win.
After a deadlocked first quarter that ended in an 11-11 tie, HNS outscored the Bobcats 18-6 in the second frame to take control.
The teams both scored 11 in the third and Summerland whittled three points off of the advantage in the fourth but it was too little too late.
Austin Sudbeck led the Wildcat offensive output with 22 points on the night on more than respectable 10-for-16 shooting from the field.
Carter Kelly tossed in 15, Will Feilmeier added seven and Brayden Lammers chipped in with six.
Sudbeck also pulled down eight rebounds and Kelly grabbed seven missed shots.
Mason Krause delivered four assists while Kelly and Sudbeck each swiped a couple of steals and Lammers blocked four shots.
The ‘Cats were set to take on Wausa, which was fresh off of its Lewis & Clark Conference Championship the night before.
Hartington-Newcastle will travel to Wynot to take on the Blue Devils Feb. 13.
