SUMMERLAND — The Hartington-Newcastle Lady Wildcats salvaged a win in the consolation bracket of the Greater Northeast Activities Conference Basketball Tournament after the girls were bounced from the championship bracket by West Holt in the first round.
The Lady Eagles and the Lady Wildcats met at Summerland Feb. 6 with the Lady ‘Cats winning the game with little trouble by the final tally of 51-35.
In fact, Vayda Lippert poured in 32 points herself which was just short of the entire Lutheran High team.
Hartington-Newcastle led by five at the end of the first period then led by nine at the half.
The Lady ‘Cats made it 10 after three then put the game away in the fourth for the 16-point win.
Karissa Bruning added eight points and Nora Lange tossed in seven.
Lippert made it a double-double by pulling down 12 rebounds and handed out four assists and swiped five steals. Bruning hit double digits in rebounds with 12 as well.
West Holt scored early and often on the way to a 76-24 win over HNS.
The Lady Huskies went up 20-7 after the opening eight minutes and never really looked back on the way to the big win.
Lippert and Bruning scored eight and seven points respectively, Ziva Stratman had four.
Bruning corralled seven missed shots and Lippert had four steals.
The Lady Wildcats will hit the road for the remainder of the regular season. They had a game scheduled with Wausa on Feb. 10 and will travel to take on Wynot Feb. 13.
