PLAINVIEW - It took an extra four minutes, but the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears won and advanced in the opening round of the Greater Northeast Activities Conference Boys Basketball Tournament here Feb. 2 with a 54-47 win over Summerland in overtime.
A huge fourth quarter comeback evened the score at 43-43 after the Bobcats had led most of the game then the Bears took control in the overtime, outscoring Summerland 11-4 in the extra session to move on to the semifinals.
Summerland 32-22 heading into the fourth quarter, but LCC outscored the Bobcats 21-11 in the period to send the game to overtime.
Complete statistics were not available at press time and the Bears were set to take on No. 2 seeded Plainview Feb. 5 at Lutheran High Northeast in Norfolk.
The GNAC Championship games will be played Feb. 7 at Laurel-Concord- Coleridge.
Earlier in the week, Wakefield came to Laurel to take on the Bears and went back home with a 60-51 win over LCC.
The Bears sprinted to an 18-12 lead at the end of the first eight minutes and extended the advantage to 32-24 by the intermission.
Unfortunately, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge couldn’t hold the lead and the Trojans outscored the Bears 36--19 in the second half to complete the comeback and post the nine-point win.
Drey Puppe paced the Bears with 19 points, Talon Carson and Paxton Hoeppner each tossed in 11 points.
Tanner Thompson pulled down nine rebounds, Carson corralled seven missed shots.
