BATTLE CREEK— The Laurel-Concord Coleridge Lady Bears earned a win, then suffered their first setback since early January during road action last week.
The Orange and Black had little difficulty Tuesday at Hartington, defeating the Wildcats 6742 to extend their win streak to five games.
The Lady Bears then travelled to Battle Creek Thursday, suffering a 61-57 setback to the Bravettes.
The matchup with the Bravettes was close throughout, beginning with a 10-10 tie at the end of the first quarter.
Battle Creek took a three-point lead into halftime, and the teams matched each other again in the third quarter with 15 points apiece.
The Bravettes held on down the stretch to secure the 61-57 win, snapping LCC’s six-game winning streak.
Kaida Eriksen and Rena Rasmussen led the Lady Bears with 24 and 21 points, respectively. Rasmussen recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds, while Eriksen pulled down four boards. Rasmussen also dished out five assists, and Carlie Kvols added four.
The Lady Bears had better fortune against the Lady Wildcats, leading wire-to-wire on their way to their 11th win of the season. Rasmussen erupted for 31 points, shooting 10-of-14 from the field and 10-of-13 from the free-throw line. She completed the doubledouble with 12 rebounds. Eriksen added 12 points, while Kvols finished with eight points and eight rebounds. Kvols also recorded seven assists and, along with Hattie McCorkindale, led the team with four steals each. The Lady Bears were set to travel to Norfolk on Jan. 27 to face Lutheran High Northeast before returning home to host Wakefield on Jan. 29. The Greater Northeast Activities Conference Tournament was scheduled to begin this weekend.
