RANDOLPH — The Randolph Cardinals clamped down defensively from the opening tip on their way to a decisive 63-43 win over Bloomfield on Jan. 20, improving to 9-4 on the season while sending the Bees home at 3-12.
A game against Winnebago scheduled for Jan. 23 in Randolph was canceled.
The Cardinal defense flexed its muscles in the opening quarter, limiting Bloomfield to a single bucket in the eight-minute session.
Meanwhile, the Randolph offense produced 16 points on balanced scoring. Five Cardinals scored in the period, led by Adrian Samano with five. Luke Harder had four, Jaylen Junck splashed a 3-pointer, Logan Lienemann nailed 2-of-3 free throws and Brecken Shearer added a bucket in the paint.
The Bees trimmed the lead in the second quarter, but Randolph still held a 31-19 advantage at halftime.
The Cardinals added to the margin in the third quarter, and the teams played to a 15-15 stalemate in the fourth, but the outcome was already decided as Randolph secured the win.
Samano had his biggest offensive night of the season with 19 points. Lienemann added 17, Harder finished with 10 and Ryan Engel chipped in nine.
Randolph was set to travel to Wynot on Jan. 27 before opening play in the Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament Jan. 31 through Feb. 9.
