WYNOT — Wynot built a 10-point halftime advantage Tuesday and maintained control in the second half to defeat the Creighton Bulldogs, 48-37.
Both teams pushed the tempo with full-court defensive pressure and an up-and-down offensive style.
Wynot was led by the steady play of Kotner Koch,who finished with 13 points. Devin Brummer knocked down three 3-pointers on his way to 12points. Braylon Hans got going early, scoring all 10 of his points in the first half.
Creighton was paced by Ethan Kuhl with 11 points, while James Fanning added 10.
Wynot jumped out to an early lead behind four points from Nixen Heimes and a 3-pointer by Brummer. Creighton answered with four points each from Fanning and Kuhl as Wynot held a narrow 13-11 edge after one quarter.
The Blue Devil defense stiffened in the second quarter, holding the Bulldogs to just two field goals along with free throws. Wynot responded with seven points from Braylon Hans and baskets by Justin Heimes, Koch and Killian Steinhaus to extend the lead to 28-17 at halftime.
The teams traded baskets in the third quarter. Creighton got eight points from Dylan Nilson and a 3-pointer from Gabriel Karter. Wynot countered with seven points and a long-range 3-pointer by Steinhaus to maintain a 39-30 advantage.
Fanning, Volk and Kuhl all scored for the Bulldogs down the stretch, but Wynot did not fold. Brummer added six points, while Cash Lenzen and Koch each scored a basket to seal the 48-37 Blue Devil win.
