Lady Trojans post 1-2 mark for the week

HARTINGTON - What started as a good looking week turned into a couple of dark and gloomy nights as the Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans dropped a couple of Mid State Conference games to Wayne and Guardian Angels Central Catholic at the Monsignor Werner Activities Center after opening the week with a solid win over St. Mary’s Catholic on the road.

Guardian Angels came to town Jan. 24 and established a lead right away, ending the opening eight minutes in front 16-8 and extending the lead to 35-12 at the intermission.

The Lady Bluejays added a bucket to the Cedar deficit in the third then coasted to the 68-43 win.

Addison Walter paced the Lady Trojan offensive attack with 18 points, Savannah Pick tacked on 12. Brynn Bernecker added seven and Anisten Wortmann tossed in six.

Walter grabbed seven rebounds, Pick had six.

Camryn Loecker and Bernecker each dished out three assists.

In the loss to the Lady Blue Devils, Wayne grabbed a 10-point lead by the end of the first half.

The teams played evenly in the third quarter and the Lady Trojans took a free throw off the advantage in the fourth frame and the game ended with the Lady Blue devils in front by the 48-39 final score.

Wortmann led three Cedar Catholic players in double figures with 17 points including a 13-for-14 showing at the foul line.

Walter and Pick added 10 points each.

Wortmann yanked down nine boards and distributed four assists while recording five steals defensively.

In the win over the Lady Cardinals, Cedar Catholic led by four after one and 17 at the half.

The game slowed down from there but the Lady Trojans had already done enough damage to coast to the win.

Wortmann and Walter had 18 and 12 points respectively to pace Cedar Catholic. Walter added nine caroms, Pick added six.

Brynn Bernecker and Loecker each handed out three assists, Loecker added three steals to her evening.

Cedar was set to take a trip to take on Ponca on Jan. 27 in conference action before hosting Plainview on Jan. 29 before entering the Mid State Conference Tournament.
