Recap presented of Northeast Nebraska Ag Conference

The second annual Northeast Nebraska Ag Conference (NNAC) was held on December 16, 2025, at Northeast Community College in Norfolk. The full-day event offered a wide range of breakout sessions designed for both new and experienced producers, allowing attendees to choose topics that best fit their operations.

The conference focuses on sharing practical farm and ranch strategies that protect water quality while supporting economic sustainability. Industry experts and seasoned producers presented on current agricultural trends, practical applications, and technology integration.

In the absence of the scheduled keynote speaker, Glen Rabenberg stepped in and delivered an engaging, well-received presentation on soil chemistry, soil sampling, and interpreting soil test results, providing attendees with valuable, practical information. Glen Rabenberg is the founder and owner of Soil Works LLC.

Rather than conforming to traditional soil science methods, Glen brings his knowledge of animal science to the soil. He believes that the soil is a living organism and that its health should be assessed in the same way as that of humans and animals.

The conference featured a wide range of knowledgeable speakers who covered topics of strong interest to northeast Nebraska producers. Breakout sessions highlighted practical strategies, local challenges, and innovative approaches, offering attendees valuable insights they could apply directly to their operations.

A producer panel featuring Graham Christensen (LENRD), Doug Steffen (LCNRD), Lanie Lechtenberg (LNNRD), and Kenny Reinke (UENRD) highlighted how local farmers are successfully implementing conservation practices and managing economic considerations in their operations.

The next Northeast Nebraska Ag Conference will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2026. To suggest topics or join the planning team, contact Becky Ravenkamp at 4022546758 or [email protected].

The event is co-hosted by the Bow Creek Watershed Project and the Bazile Groundwater Management Area Project, with support from regional Natural Resources Districts, the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment, Nebraska Extension, Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Nebraska Environmental Trust, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, and other partners.
