WYNOT — Bancroft-Rosalie edged Wynot in a defensive battle Thursday night, slipping past the Blue Devils 28-27 in a game where every possession mattered.
The contest was a sluggish, lowscoring affair from the start, with neither offense finding rhythm. Three-point shooting kept the Lady Panthers within striking distance.
Bailey Murphy led all scorers with 14 points, eight of which came in the decisive fourth quarter. Jaylynn James also reached double figures with 10 points for Bancroft-Rosalie.
Wynot was paced by Addison Sharpe, who knocked down three 3-pointers on her way to 10 points.
Both teams opened cold, matching the frigid weather outside. Callie Kai and James each scored a bucket in the low-scoring first quarter. Wynot grabbed a 5-4 lead as Sharpe hit a trey and Haley Wieseler added a floater in the lane.
Scoring did not pick up much in the second quarter. Wynot got 3-pointers from Kenna Oligmueller and Jordan Foxhoven, along with a bucket from Wieseler, to inch ahead 14-10 at halftime. Murphy and James each added a field goal for B-R.
Offense continued to be hard to come by in the third period. Bancroft-Rosalie received a pair of baskets each from Murphy and James, while Wynot countered with 3-pointers from Sharpe and Wieseler. The Blue Devils held a narrow 21-20 lead heading into the final quarter.
In the closing frame, Wynot got a trey from Jaylin Geisen and another from Sharpe. Murphy then took over for Bancroft-Rosalie, scoring all eight of the Lady Panthers’ fourth-quarter points to secure the 28-27 win.
