HARTINGTON — Dick Donner was elected last week as the new Chairman of the Cedar County Board of Commissioners.
District 2 Commissioner Mike Meier was then elected vice chairman during the board’s annual reorganization meeting.
Along with his commissioner work, Meier will serve on the Region IV Mental Health Board and the Northeast Nebraska Public Health Board.
Donner was appointed to sit on the Region IV Northstar Disabilities, Missouri River Advisory Group, and National Scenic River boards.
McGregor was appointed to the Landfill and solid waste, Transit System, Goldenrod Hills, HUD and Northeast Area on Aging.
Carla Schmidt was re-appointed as Road Supt. and also County Road Manager. Kevin Garvin was re-appointed as Emergency Management and Communications Director, while Justin Heikes was named to continue as part-time Weed Supt. and Tim Gobel was re-appointed Zoning Administrator.
The board also voted to retain the current time and days for Cedar County Board meetings — the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 8:30 a.m.
The county will also observe 13 legal holidays, following the same schedule they used in 2025. This includes half a day for Christmas Eve.
The board also named all three Cedar County newspapers — Cedar County News, Laurel Advocate and Randolph Times — as their official legal newspapers.
The board then named official depositories as: Bank of Hartington; Citizens State Bank; First State Bank of Randolph; Security Bank of Laurel, Coleridge, Hartington; Farmers & Merchants State Bank of Hartington; Cedar Security Bank Hartington, Fordyce and Wynot, and Brunswick State Bank of Magnet.
The Board also noted the mileage reimbursement rate will go up from 70 cents a mile to 72.5 cents an hour — the same rate the state uses.
In other business Tuesday, the Board also renewed its contract with Y&Y lawncare to take care of the courthouse grounds and at the county tower site.
A special designated liquor license was also approved for the annual St. John’s Fish Fry Feb. 20 in Fordyce.
Schmit noted there is a Lower Elkhorn NRD grant of up to $5,000 available to southern Cedar County for trees.
Zoning Administrator Tim Gobel presented commissioners with three building permits.
Tim Nissen, Pct 11, for a 50,000 bushel grain bin.
Bryan Kalin, Pct. 17, for a 18x60 cattle facility. That facility had previously been constructed without a permit.
Mark Folkers, Pct. 18, for a 30x30 honey kitchen.
