1936: Promes re-elected as Bow Valley Park Assoc. President

BOW VALLEY — “For the Love of Johnny,” will be presented by the Bow Valley Dramatic club at the Bow Valley hall Jan. 31. The play will also be given at the Fordyce Community Hall.

The play is a royalty production, and has been produced with great success in many of the leading cities of the country. It was first given at Louisville, Tennessee, where it scored an immediate hit. It combines the dramatic and comedy elements in a most effective way.

The cast is composed of the Misses Josephine Burbach, Rose Stappert and Martha Noecker, and Alphonse Ramiel, Paul Noecker, Alphonse Wortmann, Anthony Burbach, Anton Noecker and Henry Wortmann. All of these people have appeared in other productions given by the group, and their ability is assured.

HARTINGTON — The Ralph Morten farm home was completely destroyed by fire starting from a gasoline explosion.

Jan. 23, 1936

HARTINGTON — Hartington Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor the annual ball Thursday, Feb. 13 at the Hartington Auditorium. Music for the dance will be furnished by Any Moat’s Blue Pennant Orchestra of Norfolk. Sale of dance tickets was commenced by department members this week. Price of tickets is 60 cents per couple. Extra ladies will be charged 15 cents.

HARTINGTON— When the members of the Bow Valley Park Association met for their annual meeting at the Bow Valley Hall Wednesday afternoon officers for the ensuing year were elected.

Casper Promes was re-elected President; John Wortmann, vice president; Hugo Stappert, treasurer and John A. Thoene, secretary. Joe H. Promes of Wynot was elected on the board of directors. Rudolph Wesslin of St. Helena was elected Commander and John Hochstein messenger. Despite the 16-below zero temperatures of the afternoon there was a large attendance at the meeting with over 50 of the 75 members being present. Treasurer Hugo Stappert said the financial standing of the Bow Valley Park Association is very strong with a balance of $300 in the treasury.

Jan. 23, 1936

HARTINGTON— The Hartington Volunteer Fire Department answered its first fire alarm of the year Tuesday when they went to the Harry Stockwell home in this city Tuesday morning at 9:25.

Soot in the chimney ignited and smoked up several rooms, but aside from that, no damage was done.

HARTINGTON— Most Rev. James Ryan, the Bishop of Omaha, has announced a number of appointments and reappointments among the clergy of the diocese, and in this list are the names of a number of priests in Cedar County.

Rev. Ferdinand Krings, for years pastor of the Menominee Catholic Church, has been appointed pastor of the Catholic church at Madison.

Rev. Otto M. Zillig, pastor of the Wynot Catholic church, will be transferred to Menominee where he will become pastor there.

Rev. John D. Mines, who has been pastor at Laurel, will become pastor of the Wynot Catholic church.
