HARTINGTON — Feb. 8, is the day set by the Dixon County Board of Supervisors for a special election in Dixon County to vote on removing the county seat to Allen. This question has been raised several times before in the past but, was never allowed to come to a vote. Ponca, the present county seat, is in the northeastern part of the county.

It is thought by many that this will be the last opportunity to move the county seat, for the old court house is becoming so dilapidated it is only a matter of a very short time until it will be impracticable to further repair it.

In case the present election loses and Ponca retains her title to the county seat, the Nebraska law will not allow the question to again be brought up for 10 years, and long before that time a new court house would be built in Ponca and another effort for removal would thus be out of the question.

Ponca champions state the removal of the county seat would cause a heavy burden upon the taxpayers to erect a court house in Allen, but Allen constituents assert that a suitable building can be obtained there for use as a court house.

Jan. 20, 1921
