COLERIDGE — Dr. Roger Breed, Commissioner of Education from the Nebraska Dept. of Education, will be making a trip to Cedar County in February to visit with staff from the Coleridge and Laurel-Concord Schools.
“This is quite an honor to have Dr. Breed come here,” said Supt. Rich Patton.
Breed will be looking at the inter-local agreement for sharing that Coleridge and Laurel-Concord are operating under and Distance Learning, among other things the two schools have been doing to provide a quality education while keeping budget costs down.
“We think we have some unique solutions for the budget problems that rural schools are having,” said Patton. “We have been doing Distance Learning for quite a few years — we can tell him this works and this doesn’t work as well.”
The first inter-local agreement between Coleridge and Laurel-Concord Schools was signed in June of 2002 and involved sharing one teacher for the 2002-03 school year.
