BATTLE CREEK— The Cedar Catholic boys wrestling team had a solid showing at the Battle Creek Invitational Jan. 17 after posting 122 points as a team which put the Trojans in fifth place.
TheTrojans also hosted a home meet Thursday at Holy Trinity gym, dominating the competition in their old stomping grounds.
Battle Creek won Saturday’s tournament with 179 points, Logan View was second with 156.5, Gretna East was third at 146 and Gretna was fourth with 139.5, followed by Cedar.
Four Trojans brought home gold medals for their efforts throughout the day.
Maverick Heine used two falls in his first two bouts at 132 pounds, a major decision and a 4-0 decision over Gabriel Campos of Gretna East for his gold medal.
Bodie Hochstein climbed to the top of the podium at 144 pounds with three pins and a major decision.
Easton Hochstein took the crown at 150 pounds with five consecutive pins in a full bracket.
Brady Hochstein added to his career pins total at 165 with a couple of falls and a medi cal forfeit to win at his weight class.
Kody Bartling finished seventh at 138, Broderick Kleinschmit was eighth at 175 and Blake Bensen was 12th at 126.
Keaton Keiser went 3-0 on his day with three pins to take the 144-pound JV title.
The Trojans hosted a quadrangular on Jan. 15 taking on Randolph and Lyons-Decatur Northeast and Hartington-Newcastle at the Monsignor Werner Activities Center.
Cedar used wins by Bodie Hochstein (144), Easton Hochstein (150), Hunter Kuchta (157) and Anson Noecker (190) to turn away the Cards 41-21.
Cedar Catholic defeated the neighbors across the street 42-15 behind wins from Bartling (138) and Noecker (190) The Trojans are set to return to action on Jan. 23 in the Madison Invitational before heading to the Norfolk YMCA for the Mid State Conference Tournament on Jan. 24.
