HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic Trojans fell to .500 on the year after suffering two tough losses last week.
Cedar dropped a 55-49 home decision Thursday night to Dakota Valley, S.D. The Trojans then hit the road Friday, falling to MidState Conference foe Pierce, 58-43.
A rough first quarter put Cedar Catholic in catch-up mode Friday night as the Trojans fell 58-43 to Pierce in boys varsity basketball action at Cedar Catholic.
Pierce jumped out to a 19-8 lead after the opening period and never allowed the Trojans to fully recover, even as Cedar Catholic played a more even game the rest of the way, but the early hole proved too deep.
Cedar Catholic’s offense leaned heavily on a pair of Wortmanns, with senior Aaron Wortmann leading the Trojans with 14 points while Kighter Wortmann added seven. Sophomore Micah Cattau provided a strong spark inside, finishing with 14 points while shooting an efficient 6-of-8 from the field, including a perfect 5-of-5 mark on two-point attempts.
The Trojans shot 38% from the field (17-of-45) and hit four 3-pointers on 20 attempts. Cedar Catholic went 5-of-10 at the free throw line.
