HARTINGTON — The Hartington- Newcastle Lady Wildcats put together a 2-1 week of basketball.
Hartington-Newcastle fell to Humphrey Archangels, 44-18.
Archangels set the tone early, jumping out to an 11-2 lead in the first quarter and building steady separation the rest of the way.
Despite the tough matchup, Vada Lippert continued her strong play and led Hartington-Newcastle with 12 points.
Carissa Bruning was strong on the glass, pulling down nine rebounds to lead the Lady Wildcats.
Lippert also sparked HNS defensively, coming away with four steals.
Against Tri County, the Lady Wildcats bounced back with a strong second-half effort to earn a 42-41 win. Tri County led 15-4 after the first quarter, but HNS settled in defensively and began chipping away, holding Tri County to six points in the second quarter and taking a 23-21 deficit into halftime.
The game stayed tight through the third quarter, with HNS outscoring Tri County 13-10 to put themselves in position heading into the final period. The Lady Wildcats then closed with a 19-point fourth quarter to edge past Tri County by one.
Hartington-Newcastle earned another conference win, defeating Lutheran High Northeast 51-22.
HNS took control early, holding Lutheran High to four points in the first quarter while building a 13-4 advantage.
