BATTLE CREEK - The Hartington-Newcastle wrestling team competed in a home meet Thursday with Randolph and Lyons Decatur NE and at the Battle Creek Invitational Boys Wrestling Tournament Jan. 17.
The Cats came away from Battle Creek with 69 points which was good enough for eighth in the team standings.
Battle Creek won the team title with 179 points, Logan View was second with 156.5 while Gretna East posted 146 points for third.
The ‘Cats scored 69 points which put them in eighth behind Summerland in seventh with 71 and just in front of Howells-Dodge.
Ty Opfer used a couple of pins and a couple of decisions to bring home first place at 157 pounds.
Kyptin Collier placed second at 215 pounds. He arrived in the finals with three straight pins before getting pinned himself in the finals.
Grady Lammers was cruising through the bracket at 126 when he lost by a technical fall in the semifinals.
He responded by pinning his opponent at the 1:50 mark to earn the bronze.
Next up for Hartington-Newcastle will be the GNAC Tournament at Plainview on Jan. 22.
