Randolph speech team is ready for new season

RANDOLPH — Scripts are being tested, characters are coming to life and Randolph High School’s speech team is already finding its rhythm as the Cardinals prepare for a new competition season.

This year’s team includes 13 members. Returning students include Brecken Shearer, Ryan Engel, Jenna Guenther, Alaina Schulz, Alexis Wortman, Serenity Schultz, Karma Lins, Jaden Dickes and Sydney Robinson.

New members this season are Emma Naslund, Aubrey Weyhrich, Olivia Rayford and Emily Gilliland.

With guidance from Lackas, students have been selecting pieces for upcoming competitions, choosing scripts that reflect their personalities and interests.

Lackas said the team is excited to get the season started and has been working hard while keeping practices upbeat.

“I have an enthusiastic group of young ladies and gentlemen,” Lackas said. “It’s always fun to see the students’ performances as they improve characters and really bring the scripts to life.”

Notable competition dates for the Cardinals this season include the Lewis & Clark Conference meet on Monday, March 9 in Emerson; Randolph’s district meet on Monday, March 16 in Wayne; and the state championship meet on Saturday, March 28 in Kearney.
