1961: Rokahr Implement will celebrate two years in Randolph

RANDOLPH - Fred M. Pokorney was re-elected superintendent of the Randolph Public School at the January meeting of the Board of Education.

Mr. Pokorney was given a one-year contract on a unanimous vote of the board members.

He is completing his fourth year as head of the Randolph school system.

Also unanimously re-elected for another year was Mrs. Eva May Strathman, principal of the Randolph school.

RANDOLPH - Wm. C. Dowling, Manager of the Carhart Lumber Co. here, has been appointed to membership on the National affairs committee of the National Retail Lumber Dealers Association.

The appointment is for two years. This committee is the legislative group of the national association.

RANDOLPH - Ronald Burns, farmer living west of Randolph, has purchased the Allis-Chalmers implement business in Coleridge from Charles Cass.

Mr. Burns will hold a farm sale on Monday, January 16. He plans to take over the business in Coleridge about Feb. 1.

RANDOLPH - Frederick Rokahr has been an implement dealer in Randolph for the past two years. Mr. Rokahr purchased the John Deere business from E. J. Burbach in March, 1959.

The Rokahr Implement Co. handles a complete line of John Deere farm equipment and also a line of Allied machinery and supplies. The business has the DeLaval dealership, which includes separators, milkers, pipe lines and bulk tanks.

The firm has a complete line of John Deere Implement parts, and a complete repair service.

Mr. Rokahr is a native of Orchard. Prior to coming to Randolph he operated a farm northeast of Orchard.

Mrs. Rokahr is the former Beulah Moser of Creighton. The couple are the parents of two children, Everett, 11, and Linda, 10.

RANDOLPH - The Randolph Cards lost a pair of contests the last week dropping a 54 to 37 decision to Ponca in the Lewis and Clark conference tournament Jan. 4, and then lost a 52 to 50 heartbreaker to Center here Tuesday.

Ponca jumped to an early lead and was in command all the way in downing the Cards 54 to 37.

Bill Martindale paced the Randolph attack with 12 points, while Hall was Ponca’s leading scorer with 14.

Center 52 - Randolph 50

Center came back in the fourth quarter to down the Cards 52 to 50 here Tuesday.

The Cards enjoyed a 15 to 9 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 29 to 25 margin at halftime.

Gary Rosenbach and Bill Martindale each scored 18 points for the Cards. L. Sealer of Center was the game’s leading scorer with 24 markers.

RANDOLPH - Randolph Hatchery and Pfisters Hybrid are deadlocked atop the City League standings with identical 12-4 records, while First State Bank remains in close pursuit at 11-5 in bowling action reported in the Jan. 12, 1961 Randolph Times.

Leiting Trucking sits fourth at 9-7, followed by Randolph Oil (6-10) and a tight three-team cluster at the bottom: Kaiser Produce (5-11), IHC 450’s (5-11) and Kolterman Farm Equip. (4-12).

Kaiser Produce rolled the high team series of the week at 2481, while Pfisters Hybrid posted the high team game at 847.

Individual honors went to A. Borst with the top series at 546, while N. Bloomquist fired the best game at 210. Other top series included F. Thieman (540) and W. Eddie (533), with high games of 208 turned in by J. Reed and F. Thieman, and a 206 by A. Borst.

RANDOLPH - In ABC League play, Hartz Pharmacy holds the league’s best record at 124, with Blue Bunny in second at 10½-5½ and Mauch’s Transf. right behind at 9-3. Logan Valley Const. remains in contention at 8½-7½, followed by Backus Redi Mix (8-8) and Midway Bar (5½10½). Tilton Oil (3½-12½) and Carhart Lbr. Co. (3-9) round out the standings.

Hartz Pharmacy also claimed both top team marks with the high team series (2256) and high team game (781).

Top individual series honors went to J. Lehman (540), followed by J. Borst (526) and Dr. Rodgers (522). In the high-game standings, N. Bloomquist again led the way with a 210, while L. Lackas rolled a 197 and J. Lehman and L. Scotteach posted 193.
