WINSIDE - The Randolph Lady Cardinal basketball team dropped a pair of Lewis & Clark Conference road games last week, falling to Winside 62-32 on Jan. 8 and Walthill 57-13 on Jan. 6.
Randolph hung close early against the Lady Wildcats before Winside pulled away. The Lady Cardinals trailed 13-7 after the first quarter but were able to stay within striking distance through the first half. Winside then used a strong third quarter to open the game up and went on to secure the 30-point victory.
Abbey Backer led Randolph with 23 points. Lilly Kuchta added four and Kynlee Winkelbauer scored two.
Braylee Kelley, Kuchta and Winkelbauer each grabbed four rebounds. Kuchta also handed out three assists and Kelley recorded three steals.
Walthill controlled the second conference matchup from start to finish, building a large early lead and holding Randolph to 13 points in the loss.
Kuchta paced Randolph with five points, while Kelley scored four. Delayne Thelen added three points and Winkelbauer scored one at the free-throw line.
Randolph was scheduled to open a five-game homestand Tuesday, Jan. 13, hosting Niobrara/ Verdigre. The Lady Cardinals will also welcome Homer on Jan. 15, Wausa on Jan. 16 and undefeated Bloomfield on Jan. 20.
