WINSIDE — The Randolph Cardinal wrestling team placed third at the Winside Invitational Boys Wrestling Tournament on Jan. 9, finishing with 105 team points.
Guardian Angels Central Catholic won the team title with 142 points, while Weeping Water placed second with 129. Millard North finished fourth with 99.5 points and O’Neill St. Mary’s rounded out the top five with 85.5.
Randolph’s third-place finish was fueled by two individual championships and two runner-up finishes.
Bentley Reimers won the 113-pound title, while Talyn Meyer captured gold at 126. Reimers recorded a technical fall and a major decision in his championship run. Meyer earned two pins and a major decision to claim his title.
Cole Jensen placed second at 138 and Tate Brodersen earned runner-up honors at 150. Jensen advanced to the finals with a fall and major decision before falling to Trevor Steffen of Guardian Angels Central Catholic by major decision. Brodersen pinned his way to the finals before dropping an 8-3 decision to Tucker Bickford of Weeping Water.
Kamdin Worlein (138), Elijah Bermel (157) and Stewart Umberger (285) each finished 2-2 on the day. Josh Miller (165) and Esai Warman (175) both went 1-2.
Randolph was scheduled to travel to Atkinson on Jan. 13 for a dual with West Holt before heading to Hartington for a triangular at Cedar Catholic with the Trojans and Lyons-Decatur Northeast. The Cardinals will wrap up the week at the West Holt Invitational on Jan. 16 in Atkinson.
