LAUREL — Laurel can boast of many things which are exceptional for a town of this size and the latest addition to these things is a bank with well over two million dollars to its credit. The official bank statement which was published in this issue of your Advocate is a matter of pride to the Laurel community, for after all it is our bank.

For the past several years the institution has shown a steady growth, a healthy growth that reflects better than anything else the prosperous condition of the community. The bank is doing a fine job of taking care of the financial needs of the community, assisting in every possible way in promoting the best interests of all, and as a result, is enjoying the confidence of more and more people all the time.

The officers and directors of the institution are to be congratulated on the fine showing made in this statement of today. They are doing a fine job and are playing a vital part in the growth of Laurel and surrounding territory. Turn to the statement and read it and we are sure you will agree with us that we have every reason to be proud of theSecurity National Bank of Laurel.

LAUREL - Pfc. Harold Carlson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Carlson, got his picture in the California papers recently when a party of 30 “amputees” from the Mare Island Naval Hospital were guests of the Vallejo Lions Club at their annual Christmas party. In the picture with Harold were Henry Eaton chairman of the evening; Lt. Com. H. F. Aron of the Naval Hospital staff, who is retiring from the Navy after 45 years of service; Wes Berry club president and Sgt. Albert Osborne. It is a fine likeness of Harold and he is reported as getting along fine at this time.

LAUREL - There is joy in the kindergarten of the Laurel school for Mrs. Echtenkamp, beloved teacher of the 27 youngsters, returned to her duties Monday after a long illness which started with the flu and developed into pneumonia, putting her in the hospital for a considerable time. One of the youngsters was so glad to see her they immediately telephoned the news to his home. Such a reception as she received is better than any medicine. We are happy to join in welcoming her back.
