LAUREL — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge boys basketball team went 1-2 last week, opening with a win over Elkhorn Valley before dropping games to Cedar Catholic and Humphrey/Lindsay.
LCC defeated Elkhorn Valley 61-56 on Jan. 6 in Tilden. The Bears then fell at home to Cedar Catholic 62-36 on Jan. 8 before closing the week with a 63-55 loss to Humphrey/Lindsay on Jan. 9.
In the loss to Humphrey/Lindsay, Drey Puppe led the Bears with 23 points. Talon Carson added 17 points and Cade Johnson finished with 14.
Carson grabbed eight rebounds and Johnson pulled down seven boards. Paxton Hoeppner dished out eight assists while also recording three steals. Parker Hoeppner added four assists.
Cedar Catholic jumped out early in Laurel, outscoring the Bears 22-14 in the first quarter and extending the margin to 35-20 at halftime.
LCC played evenly in the third quarter but Cedar Catholic pulled away with a 13-3 advantage in the fourth on the way to a 62-36 win.
Puppe scored 12 points to lead LCC, while Parker Hoeppner added eight and Johnson finished with six.
Puppe also grabbed six rebounds, while Johnson and Tanner Thompson collected four rebounds each.
Johnson had four assists and Paxton Hoeppner added three. Johnson also recorded three steals.
The Bears snapped a four-game losing streak with their win over Elkhorn Valley. LCC set the tone early, building a 25-16 lead after the first quarter. Elkhorn Valley cut into the lead in the second, but the Bears carried a 34-30 advantage into halftime.
LCC extended the lead slightly in the third quarter, then the teams played to a 15-15 tie in the fourth as the Bears secured the 61-56 win.
Puppe poured in 26 points in the win. Carson scored 17 and Johnson added 14.
Carson again led the Bears on the boards with eight rebounds, while Johnson grabbed seven. Paxton Hoeppner totaled eight assists and three steals.
LCC was scheduled to play at Wayne on Jan. 13 in a nonconference matchup before returning home Jan. 16 to host Summerland in GNAC action.
The Bears will travel Jan. 17 for a conference game at Neligh-Oakdale.
