Lady Bears compete at Winside

WINSIDE - Five Lady Bear wrestlers traveled to Winside Jan.

10 to compete in the Winside Girls Wrestling Invitational.

Tekamah-Herman won the team title in the meet with 132 points, Plainview was second at 123.5 and Pierce came in third with 113.5.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast was fourth with 92.5 points and Cedar Catholic and Winnebago tied for fifth with 75 team points.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge ended up 18th in the 26-team tournament with 14 points.

Tae Settje was the lone Lady Bear to bring home some hardware, bringing home the fourth-place medal at 115 pounds after going 2-2 on the day.

Settje won her first bout of the day with a pin in 1:32 over Kaitlyn Mehaney of Northeast Nebraska which is made up of girls from Pender and Wisner-Pilger.

After a loss in the second round she made quick work of Madelyn Miller of North Bend Central, getting the pin just 51 seconds into the match.

She lost in the consolation finals to Dakotta Erickson of Lyons-Decatur Northeast by fall at the 2:23 mark of the match.

Ava Christiansen (125), Justice Olson (130), Grace Galvin (140) and Darly Garcia-Perez also competed in the meet with Garcia-Perez winning a match in the consolation bracket.

The Lady Bears travel to Plainview Jan. 17 for an invitational.
