Local bank helps restart food pantry

LAUREL — Citizens Bank recently awarded a donation to the Laurel-Concord Ministerial Association through its community nomination program called “Giving Back,” Laurel Police Chief Ron Lundahl nominated the ministerial association in recognition of the organization’s service and impact in the Laurel area.

The Laurel-Concord Ministerial Association received a $500 donation, which will be used to help reopen a food pantry in the community.

The Presbyterian Church has offered a room at the church for the pantry to collect and store larger amounts of food.

The group is currently working to acquire shelving and is also looking for volunteers to help set up the pantry.

The association’s goal is to have boxes filled with food and basic necessities ready to provide to families when emergencies arise.

Food donations were collected during the Christmas season throughout the community, including contributions from LCC School and several local churches.

In addition, the ministerial association recently contracted with a local builder to construct a free little food pantry. Since Thanksgiving, the pantry has been located behind Logan Creek Vintage and Thrift.

The ministerial association has partnered with the business and will continue to keep the pantry stocked with season-appropriate, nonperishable food items for community members in need.

The pantry operates on a “take what you need” principle, and community members are also welcome to support the effort through donations of nonperishable food items.
