HARTINGTON — George Berglund of Laurel, commissioner representing the second district, was named chairman of the Cedar County Board of Commissioners at the annual organization meeting here Tuesday morning.
He succeeds B. H. Schager of Hartington who served during 1945. The other commissioner is Joe Promes of Wynot.
The board named The Cedar County News the official county newspaper for 1946, and named The News and the Laurel Advocate to publish the annual delinquent tax list.
Ludwig Nedergaard of Hartington was appointed by the board as a member of the county Soldiers’ and Sailors’ board, and Robert McQuinn of Hartington was reappointed for another year as custodian of the county courthouse and grounds.
The board adopted a county labor wage scale for 1946 that is the same as that paid during 1945. The scale follows: Laborers, 60c an hour. Man and team, 80c an hour. Extra horses, 10c an hour. Motor patrolmen, 65c an hour. Maintenance, grader and cat operators, 65c an hour.
Road dragging, 25c a mile.
Truck driver, 60c an hour. Farm tractor and driver, $1.50 an hour.
Bridge workmen, 65c an hour. Foreman, 75c an hour.

HARTINGTON — Church officers for 1946 were selected at the annual business meeting of the Trinity Lutheran church here Tuesday night.
Rev. O. L. Levorson is president of the church council. Officers elected were: Fred M. Lofgren, vice president; Harry Stockwell, secretary; Gordon Nedergaard, treasurer; Gerald Seim, financial secretary; Otto Christensen, deacon, and Charles Miller of Fordyce, trustee. Holdover deacons are Ernest Janssen and Emil Johnson, and holdover trustees are Robert Lind and M. A. Olson.
Mrs. Ted Anderson was named organist, and Miss Mynne Carlson, Leon Carlson and Caroline Olson, assistant organists.
Miss Mynne Carlson will be Sunday School superintendent and her assistants are Dorothy Lidberg and Evelyn Heedum.
Ushers are Otto Christensen, L. G. Riibe, Ted Anderson, Peter Beyschau and Ernest Janssen.

HARTINGTON —Pvt. Roman Becker left Sunday for Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md., after spending a seven day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Becker. He is attending an automotive electric school.

WYNOT—Deer, once a rare sight in this vicinity, are becoming much more numerous. Many people, especially farmers, report seeing the animals on numerous occasions. One of the largest herds reported in this area was seen last Thursday by Mrs. Ed Jones. She saw nine deer jump a fence on the family farm.

HARTINGTON —With 28 more discharges filed this week in the office of the county clerk, the total number filed in Cedar county climbed to 468.
The navy came into its own this week with 12 sailors filing along with one marine.
The army is still piling up the lead it has held from the start, with 15 army discharges recorded this week.
