Lammers, Collier both earn gold
DAVID CITY - The Hartington- Newcastle wrestling team used a couple of champions to pace the Wildcats to a seventhplace finish in the always-tough David City Aquinas Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Jan. 10.
Aquinas Catholic won the tournament with 179 points, Scotus Central Catholic was the runner-up with 136 and Cedar Catholic was third with 129.5.
The ‘Cats posted a team score of 66 which was good enough for seventh in the 14team tournament.
Grady Lammers continued his successful season with three pins to earna his way into the championship bout where he received a medical forfeit from his opponent.
Kyptin Collier dominated the 215-pound weight class using a major decision and a couple of falls to reach the finals. In the title match, he pinned James Martin of Doniphan-Trumbull in just 1:06.
Ty Opfer finished fourth at 157 pounds with a 2-2 record on the day and Cris Kneifl went 2-2 in the 175-pound weight class but didn’t place.
The ‘Cats will be back in action at the Battle Creek Invitational on Jan. 17.
