LAUREL - The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojan basketball team avenged a loss to the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bears which happened less than 10 days prior in the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout in Wayne on New Year’s Eve.
The Lady Bears got the best of the Lady Trojans 70-52 on the last day of 2025, but Cedar Catholic turned the tables on Jan. 8 with a 62-57 win in 2026.
Earlier in the week, Cedar Catholic dropped a home contest to Dakota Valley, SD 53-36.
The Lady Bears jumped in front of the Lady Trojans by five at the end of the opening eight minutes, but Cedar erased the deficit outscoring LCC 19-10 to head to the break with a 28-24.
The Lady Trojans extended the lead to 11 in the third then held on for the five-point victory.
Four Cedar girls were in double figures on the evening, paced by Addison Walter and Anisten Wortmann who poured in 20 and 19 points respectively.
Savannah Pick and Brynn Bernecker joined the double-digit club with 10 points apiece. LCC’s Rena Rasmussen led all scorers with 29 points.
Pick and Wortmann each yanked down six rebounds for Cedar, Pick dished out four assists and Wortmann had four steals.
In the loss to the Lady Panthers, a disastrous third period spelled doom for Cedar Catholic.
The Lady Trojans were clinging to a two-point lead coming out of the halftime break but were outscored 15 -2 in the third then 19-13 in the final eight minutes to fall by the 53-36 final.
Wortmann led Cedar with 14 points, Walter added 11. The duo also grabbed eight boards each. Pick yanked down seven missed shots.
