HARTINGTON — Cedar Catholic hit a rough stretch last week, dropping three of four games against a challenging slate that included two South Dakota opponents and a familiar conference foe.
The Lady Trojans fell 53-36 to unbeaten Dakota Valley on Jan. 2 after a decisive third quarter swung the game. Dakota Valley outscored Cedar 15-2 in the period to erase a halftime deficit and pull away. Anisten Wortmann led Cedar with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Addison Walter added 11 points and eight boards.
At the Elkhorn Valley Bank Northeast Nebraska Shootout, Cedar opened with a 51-26 loss to undefeated West Central, then rebounded with a 52-46 consolation win over South Sioux City.
Wortmann scored 22 points in the win, including 11-of-14 shooting at the free-throw line, while Walter added 16.
Cedar closed the tournament with a 70-52 loss to Laurel-Concord- Coleridge, which outscored the Lady Trojans in every quarter.
Wortmann paced Cedar with 21 points, and Walter chipped in 11.
