Lammers, Opfer lead Wildcat wrestlers

NEWMAN GROVE - Hartington-Newcastle had a couple of wrestlers bring home medals from the Dec. 30 Newman Grove/St. Edward Holiday Invitational.

Battle Creek won the team title with 246 points with Cedar Catholic and Boone Central tying for second with 133.5.

The Wildcats finished 10th with 47 points. “Overall we had some great wrestling from both teams,” said HNS coach Justin Bartling. “Ty (Opfer) and Grady (Lammers) are really wrestling well, we need to keep it going.”

Lammers placed second at 120 pounds and pinned his way to the finals before getting pinned himself to earn the silver medal.

Opfer placed third after dropping a gut-wrenching sudden victory decision in the semifinals when he was taken down in the extra session. He responded from that loss with a pin over Landon Carlson of Winside.

Kyptin Collier also won a couple of matches at 215 pounds, but came a round short of the hardware.

Logan Kneifl also wrestled in the meet at 132 pounds.

The Wildcats travel to David City Jan. 10 for the Aquinas Invitational.
