NEWMAN GROVE - The Cedar Catholic wrestling team made the most of the final meet of the year by tying for second in the Newman Grove/St. Edward Holiday event Dec. 30 after posting a 133.5 team score.
The point total tied the Trojans with Boone Central for runner-up honors with Battle Creek taking the team title.
Summerland was fourth with 91.5 and Clarkson/ Leigh rounded out the top five with 90.5.
The Trojans crowned three champions in the tournament.
Maverick Heine joined Bodie and Easton Hochstein on the top of the podium in the 126, 150 and 157-pound weight classes respectively.
Hunter Kuchta (144) and Brady Hochstein (165) placed second and Kody Bartling (138) and Keyan Wickre (132) each placed sixth.
Keaton Keiser won at 138 JV and pinned all three of his opponents, two in less than a minute and one in 10 seconds over a minute.
“We did really well on the day, we only had one practice before this meet, but we still wrestled very, very, well,” said Cedar Catholic coach Justin Bartling. “We had guys wrestled their best of the season so far, it was really great to see. Now we have to keep this momentum as we go forward.”
Cedar Catholic will return to the mat Jan. 10 traveling to David City for the Aquinas Invitational.
