All three Lady Trojan wrestlers earn medals

WINNEBAGO - The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojan wrestling team, all three of them, brought home as many medals as they could from what has been called the biggest, toughest tournament in the state.

Lexington won the team title with 159.5 points, Millard South was second with 151.5 and Omaha Westside was third with 116.

Cedar Catholic wound up 12th in the team standings with 65.5 points Evie Freeman, one of Cedar Catholic’s three wrestlers competing in the meet won a title at 120 pounds after dropping down from 125 earlier this season.

Freeman used a late-match fall over Gabriell Price of Omaha Westside to grab her gold.

“I was really nervous going into the match because she’s ranked second in Class A, so I was kind of scared,” said Freeman. “My coaches helped calm me down and once we started wrestling I knew I could get it done. I just need to keep this confidence going and stop doubting myself.”

The Trojans also earned a third place medal from Morgan Kuchta at 140 and a fourth from Ashlynn Dailey at 110.

“Three girls and three top four medals,” said Cedar Catholic coach Justin Bartling. “Morgan was seeded eighth and got third, Ashlynn was seeded fifth and got fourth and Evie beat the No. 2 wrestler in Class A. Coming out of the break, we wrestled great from top to bottom.”

The Lady Trojans will head to Summerland on Jan. 12.
