Red Cross is seeking volunteers

OMAHA – The American Red Cross asks Nebraskans to consider giving the gift of time in 2026 by resolving to help people in need as a volunteer.

“Our volunteers make up 90% of our workforce and are the beating heart and soul of the Red Cross,” said Jill Orton, Red Cross of Nebraska Region CEO. “Their support is immeasurable. Their precious gift of time builds our capacity to help people in what can be their darkest hour.”

The Red Cross offers a variety of volunteer opportunities to match one’s interests, skills and availability — from supporting a family after a home fire, assisting a member of the military during an emergency, or helping ensure blood is available for patients who need it.

High-priority volunteer positions include: Disaster Action Team (DAT): Help families in the community after a home fire or other disaster, providing emotional support, emergency financial assistance and information to help families begin to recover.

Disaster Feeding Responder: Support relief operations in meeting disaster-caused feeding needs of individuals, families and communities.

Hero Care Caseworker: Support members of the military, veterans and their families providing emergency communications and critical services to military all over the world.

Blood Donor Ambassador: Engage with blood donors by greeting them at blood drives, helping with registration, answering questions, providing information and assisting at the refreshments table.

Blood Transportation Specialists: Support hospital patients by delivering lifesaving blood to local hospitals.
