LAUREL -The “valuable plate” or “flying saucer” event held here last Saturday afternoon was highly successful, although some minor changes in arrangements became apparent before it was over.
Cal Havorka, pilot, with George Gadeken as “bombadier” scattered the plates from a plane and the kids in town went running down the streets and over buildings in an attempt to retrieve them.
One of the unfortunate parts of the event was the practice of older children stealing the plates from the younger ones.
This was the first time such an event was staged in town and no doubt if it is done again some sort of an arrangement will be attempted to keep the “snatching” to a minimum.
According to Melvin Smith, Chamber of Commerce treasurer, plates redeemed so far have amounted to $187, out of the total $200 worth that were dropped from the plane.
Smith also said plates could not be redeemed after Dec. 24.

Things looked pretty bad for the varsity in the first half as they committed many errors and had netted only 24 points at intermission. The Bulldogs were held to 20, though.
The Bears recovered quickly, roaring back.
High point man for the evening was Cam Sutton with 23 points. Dave Bingham and Denny Blatchford had 13 and 11 respectively.
Jim Kurtzhals and Randy Hansen each had 11 for the Bulldogs.
