1990: Konken Implement receives fire damage

Dec. 31, 1970

COLERIDGE — The Coleridge Fire Department was called Tuesday to the Harold Flom farm where a fire was destroying a hog house and corncrib.

A heavy loss was sustained when 13 sows and 120 baby pigs died in the fire. The pigs were all 10 days old or younger. An undetermined amount of grain was lost in the corncrib.

Dec. 31, 1970

COLERIDGE — Cottontail hunters going out after bunnies after Jan. 1 will do so under new regulations, as bag and possession limits change for 1971.

Beginning Jan. 1, the daily limit of cottontails will be seven and the possession limit will be 21. During 1970, bag and possession limits were 10 and 30 respectively. And, on Feb. 28, the season will close for the first time since 1962.

Dec. 31, 1980

COLERIDGE — Firemen were called to the Duane Swensen home last week where the chimney had overheated. Some smoke entered the house, but there was no damage to the home in either form — the smoke or the fire in the chimney.

COLERIDGE — Work is underway at the Coleridge Elevator Co. to enlarge their outside scale by about 19 feet. The expansion will aid the weighing of larger vehicles hauling grain to and from the facility. Recent good weather has aided work on the project.

Dec. 26, 1990

COLERIDGE — Coleridge firemen were called to assist Hartington Wednesday when fire was discovered at Konken Implement.

Fire caused extensive damage to the front of the building. A hydraulic hose cutter was blamed for the fire.

COLERIDGE — A good Bulldog effort ended with a Coleridge win of 55-54. Coleridge had led as much as 14 points in the game.

An excellent third quarter put Coleridge in command of the contest. Quarter scores were Bulldogs 15-13, 27-24 and 41-29.

Balanced shooting for Coleridge provided the winning edge as Dave Fox led the effort with 16 points. Darin Hahne pumped in 14 and Tony Gray nailed 13. Tim Hoffart and Shannon Hansen each bagged six points. Dave Fox hit 5/10 free throws, Hoffart 2/3 and Darin Hahne 2/4.

Hoffart had two steals and seven assists and Gray one steal and three assists. Shannon Hansen had one steal and two assists, Fox one steal, one assist. The Bulldog win was the first victory over Randolph since 1980 when Coleridge won 48-40.
