ELGIN - The fledgling Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bear wrestling program wrestled in Elgin at the Elgin Public/Pope John Girls Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Dec. 19 and ended up 17th in the field of 23 teams as the Lady Bears find their way through their first varsity season on the mat.
Wayne won the tournament with 191 points, Summerland was second with 133 and Plainview/ Osmond posted a score of 91 for third.
LCC 155-pounder Darly Garcia-Perez won her first two matches of the tournament over a pair of Arcadia/Loup City wrestlers, both by fall before dropping her final two matches to finish the day 2-2.
Tae Settje at 120 pounds lost her first match but won her next two, one by medical forfeit and one by fall over Gracie Bowers of Norfolk Catholic before dropping her final match to also complete the day with a 2-2 mark.
Grace Galvin sandwiched a major decision over Lily Curry (10-1) between a couple of losses to finish the tournament 1-2 at 140 pounds.
Ava Christiansen (125) and Justice Olson (130) also competed in the meet.
The Lady Bears will return to the mat after the Christmas break when they compete in the Winside Wrestling Invitational on Jan. 10.
