Reimers, Brodersen earn silver at Wisner

WISNER - The Randolph Cardinal wrestling team closed out the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule with a sixth-place showing at the Wisner-Pilger Invitational on Dec. 20.

Randolph posted 80 points in the meet which was won by East Butler with 143.5 points.

Neligh-Oakdale was second with 124 and Guardian Angels Central Catholic was third with 95.5, just .5 in front of Archbishop Bergan. Omaha Westview rounded out the top five with 82 followed by the Cards.

The Redbirds did not have a champion on the day but rode a pair of runner-up finishes and two third-place showings to the 80-point team-total.

Bentley Reimers at 106 pounds placed second after getting two pins to advance to the finals.

Reimers wrestled well in the championship match but eventually fell to Drake Sova of East Butler by decision, 10-4.

Tate Brodersen also placed second at 150 pounds.

Brodersen followed two pins with a hard-fought 4-3 decision over Asher Uttecht of Winside in the semifinals before dropping his championship match by a fall.

Talyn Meyer placed third at 126 after sandwiching a loss in the semifinals by four pins to earn his third-place medal.

Cole Jensen continued his great start to the season with a thirdplace finish at 138.

Jensen stuck his first two opponents, was defeated by Andrew Henery of Neligh-Oakdale 7-4 then completed his day with a major decision and decision to place third.

Randolph will return to the mat on Dec. 30 at the Ord Invitational.
