ATKINSON - The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojan basketball team split a pair of games this last falling to 8-1 Crofton 48-44 and handing West Holt its second loss of the young season 41-39 in a game played in Atkinson on Dec. 19.
In the win over the Lady Huskies, Cedar Catholic used a frantic comeback in the fourth quarter to steal the contest by the two-point margin.
The two teams headed into the final eight minutes with the Lady Trojans trailing 35-27, but a great defensive effort and some torrid shooting got the score back to even and added a bucket for the win.
The Lady Trojans made 15-of-23 shots from inside the arc for an average of over 65% from the field.
Anisten Wortmann and Addison Walter carried the Cedar offensiveeffort with 14 and 13 points respectively. Brynn Bernecker tossed in eight and Walter added seven rebounds to her night.
Cedar Catholic stood toe-to-toe with Crofton but wound up just a little short in the final stanza with the Lady Warriors extending a one-point lead heading into the period to the four-point victory.
Wortmann and Walter were again the catalyst of the Lady Trojan offensive effort with Wortmann putting up 22 points and Walter tossing in 18 including four buckets from beyond the 3-point line. Savannah Pick grabbed nine boards.
Cedar Catholic will be back in action Dec. 29 when they enter the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout at Wayne State College. The 16-team tournament will continue through Dec. 31.
