PIERCE — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojan wrestling team, all three of them, hit the road Dec. 20 for the Pierce Invitational Girls Wrestling Tournament and came away with 15th place in the team race out of a field of 23 teams.
Pierce won the team title with 140 points, Battle Creek was second with 115.5 and Blair was third with 113.5.
What the Lady Trojans lacked in quantity, they made up for in quality as they brought home a second-place medal and just missed on a couple of more on their way to posting a team score of 40 points.
Evie Freeman brought home a silver medal at 125 pounds after pinning her first two opponents, Hailey Hartl of Elkhorn Valley in 2:49 then Anna Rae Hartline of Fort Calhoun in just 0:52 to advance to the finals. She ran into Evelyn Belcher of Lincoln High and fell in 3:14 of the bout.
Ashlynn Dailey at 110 pounds and Morgan Kuchta at 140 wrestled hard all day but fell short of the medals, dropping consolation semifinal matches. Both went 3-2 on the day.
The Cedar girls will return to the mat on Jan. 2 in an invitational tournament at Winnebago.
