LAUREL — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge bounced back from an 0-2 start with a pair of impressive wins last week, evening its girls basketball record at 2-2.
The Lady Bears rolled past Tri County Northeast 73-42 on the road Dec. 12, then edged Homer 59-58 in a late-game thriller three days earlier in Laurel.
LCC controlled the tempo from the opening tip against the Wolfpack, leading wire to wire and pulling away for the 31-point victory.
Carlie Kvols led three Lady Bears in double figures with 22 points, including a 5-for-7 performance from beyond the arc. Rena Rasmussen added 21 points, while Kaida Eriksen finished with 12.
Rasmussen completed a double-double with 13 rebounds, while Kvols pulled down five. Eriksen dished out seven assists, and Hattie McCorkindale and Rasmussen each recorded three steals.
The win over Homer required far more drama.
LCC entered the game winless, while the Lady Knights were unbeaten at 2-0. The teams traded baskets throughout, and Homer tied the game at 55-55 with under a minute remaining.
Eriksen delivered the decisive play, driving the baseline and hitting a runner with 19.1 seconds left to give the Lady Bears a 57-55 lead. After LCC forced a turnover on the ensuing possession, Eriksen was fouled with 9.6 seconds remaining and calmly knocked down two free throws to extend the lead to four.
Homer banked in a 3-pointer at the buzzer, but Laurel-Concord-Coleridge held on for the onepoint win.
Eriksen finished with a gamehigh 25 points and went a perfect 13-for-13 from the free-throw line. Rasmussen followed with 16 points, while Kvols added eight.
McCorkindale led the Lady Bears on the boards with 11 rebounds. Rasmussen posted her second double-double of the week with 10 rebounds, and Karli Ferris grabbed eight.
Kvols handed out three assists for her teammates.
LCC was scheduled to host Ponca on Dec. 16 before closing the pre-holiday schedule at home against Plainview on Dec. 19.
