1955: Boy Scout Troop to be reactivated

Dec. 15, 1955

RANDOLPH - Three accidents in the Randolph community within less than 24 hours point up the need for driver’s caution on narrow, partially snow-filled roads, Patrolman LeRoy Hodtwalker said Monday. He told this newspaper he investigated five accidents over the week-end, three of them in this vicinity. The local accidents were from collisions of cars or cars meeting on hilltops of country roads narrowed by snow banks.

The patrolman urged extreme care on hillcrests of roads where there is only one good track in the snow.

The first accident was Sunday at 1:30 p. m. when the car of Arlan Koehler of McLean, going north, and the one of LaVerle Korth, also of McLean, going south, collided. The cars struck 2½ miles north and one west of junction of 59-20.

About 4:45 the same afternoon, a similar accident occurred four miles east and one north of Randolph. A pickup driven by Donald Whipple of Belden and a car driven by Raymond Jacobsen struck at the left front fenders. Whipple was going north, Jacobsen south. No one was injured, there was medium damage to both cars.

Monday morning, a mile south of the Catholic church, a car and pickup met at top of a hill, no one was injured and there was medium damage to vehicles. LeRoy Plummer, driver of the car, was bringing his daughter to school at Randolph, and Tony Thelen was driving south in the pickup.
