HARTINGTON—A South Sioux City man, Richard Todd, died when his car hit a guard rail and rolled down an embankment east of Hartington. The vehicle was completely destroyed by fire.

HARTINGTON—Cedar Catholic dominated Crofton 80-36 and squeaked past previously undefeated Madison, 66-58. Cedar was led offensively by Neil Wortmann, who dropped in 28 points to lead all scorers in the Madison game.

HARTINGTON — Michelle and Karl Koch’s son, Ryan, who is serving with the 189th Transportation Company, will be spending Christmas in Iraq.
Michelle has been impressed with the Family Readiness Group that helps soldiers as well as the family that is left behind while their family member is away from home serving their country.

WYNOT — Jerome and Sally Promes, Wynot, their 16 children and their families believe there are more blessings in giving than receiving.
Every Christmas the Promes’ have a family gathering which includes Msgr. Cyril Werner.
When the Promes family gathered at the Wynot Parish Center for their family Christmas Dec. 10 they gave from their heart.

ALLEN — The Hartington Wildcats and Allen Eagles battled into overtime to decide their Lewis and Clark Conference basketball matchup. The Wildcats hung tough in the overtime and hit enough free throws to pull out the 58-55 win. The win moves the Wildcats to 3-0 on the year. Hartington built several leads throughout the game but the Eagles were able to stay close and a Chris Blohm three-pointer sent the game into the overtime session.

ALLEN — The Hartington Lady Cats pulled off another one-point conference win on Tuesday. The Lady Cats improved their record to 2-1 with a hard-fought 50-49 victory at Allen. Laura Wiebelhaus was a dominating force on the inside as she scored 20 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.

ELGIN — A trio of wrestlers earned medals and the fledging Cedar Catholic wrestling team picked up its best finish ever during action here Saturday. Cedar Catholic finished eighth in the 12-team meet with 46 points.
Cedar Catholic’s Patrick Hoesing picked up his third medal of the year at Elgin when he earned a bronze at the meet. Alex Ascherl and Kyle Dump earned medals for the second time this year.
