2015: Laurel natives honored by Husker volleyball team

Dec. 2, 2015

LINCOLN — Laurel natives Steve and Vicky Johnsen are ready to turn the microphone off after 30 years of working the public address system for the Cornhusker volleyball team.

Steve Johnsen, a 1967 Laurel High School graduate, will work his last Nebraska games Friday and Saturday when they host Harvard in NCAA Tournament action.

Steve and Vicky, who retired from their real jobs three years ago and moved to Airzona, will no longer be involved with the Huskers after that.

They will do the public address work for the NCAA Final Four in Omaha, however. This will mark the 10th year they have worked the national finals.

Steve started working as the public address announcer for the Nebraska volleyball program in 1986. It’s a job he and his wife, Vicky, a 1966 Laurel graduate, do as a team.
