HARTINGTON — Students and coaches at Hartington-Newcastle School made it happen again.
The school’s One Act performance of “I’m not Ebenezer Scrooge” took first place at District competition in Laurel Dec. 2.
The one act team will be trying for a fifth straight State championship when a bus load of students from Hartington-Newcastle School, along with coaches A.J. Johnson and Linda Kathol, head to State competition in Norfolk, Dec. 10.
This will be the ninth trip to State competition for the school. Forty-five students make up the cast for the comedy, “I’m not Ebenezer Scrooge,” along with 15 crew members.
“The kids worked very hard. They had high expectations,” Johnson said. “They knew what it would take to put on a quality performance.”
Senior students at Hartington-Newcastle School talked about what it takes to put on a good performance and win District competition.
The students give a lot of credit to the coaches. The number one reason for the school’s success is the coaches, according to Jared Fuelberth.
Camie Stratman agreed. ‘We need to give thanks to our coaches. They really know how to get us to work hard and do well,” Stratman said. “Part of it is that we expect to go to State.”
The coaches put in a lot of effort and work, and expect the students to do the same, according to Jillian Jueden. DON
