HOWELLS - For the first time since the dissolution of the wrestling cooperative with the neighbors across the street, the Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats hit the mats in the purple singlets.
Grady Lammers at 126 pounds earned a gold medal wrestling in purple for the first time while in high school using three pins and a technical fall to grab his title.
Joining Lammers on the medal stand were teammates Ty Opfer at 165 and Kyptin Collier at 215 after each earning the fifth-place hardware.
Cris Kneifl also earned a medal at 190 pounds. Logan Kneifl at 132 pounds and Josiah Christensen at 150 each placed 12th.

Kayne Gratzfeld rolls the ball down the alley at Broadway Lanes as the Hartington- Newcastle bowling team came from behind to get past Plainview Dec. 6. After the Wildcats rolled their first game they trailed the Pirates 6.5 to 1.5 in the match but HNS came back in the second round of individual bowling to take an 8.5 to 7.5 lead into the best-of-three baker’s match. The ‘Cats won the first game of the baker’s 136-108 but lost the second round of the match 144-104. HNS closed out the last game 170-92 to earn the five baker’s points for winning the baker’s portion of the day and take the overall match 13.5 to 7.5. In the first qualifying match Memphis Ulrich rolled a 144, Nate Arens scored a 150, Aiden Walter tossed a 120 and Maddox Ulrich and Gabe Sovereign combined for an 89 and Kayne Gratzfeld rolled a 132. In the second individual games Memphis Ulrich and Arens posted identical 124’s, Walter and Braeden Gubbels combined for a 116, Maddox Ulrich scored a 181 and Gratzfeld scattered the pins for a 173 to get the lead back for the ‘Cats.
