Hochstein picks up 100th win
HOWELLS - The Cedar Catholic Trojan wrestling team headed south for the Howells-Dodge Invitational on Dec. 6 and brought home the team title in the first tournament on the slate for the season.
The Trojans outwrestled Elm Creek 118.5-114 to bring home the big trophy in the 20-team tournament.
Cedar Catholic posted five champions on the day on the way to the team championship.
Easton Hochstein had a more than successful stay on the mats on his way to the title at 157 pounds.
He recorded five pins in the meet and wrestled just over a half of a single match compiling his pins in 3-minutes and 8-seconds total.
It was a special day for Hochstein, as he also recorded his 100th career win. He now boasts a 103-3 record.
“Reaching 100 wins was definitely a goal for me,” Hochstein said. “I knew from the start of my high school career that if I worked hard every day and just kept doing what I know how to do, 100 wins would come in time.”
If his twin brother Bodie stays healthy, he should also reach the 100-win mark this season. Bodie was injured last year and missed several matches.
Bodie Hochstein and a couple of teammates dominated a great 150-pound weight class.
Hochstein took the title, but Hunter Kuchta, who Hochstein defeated in the semifinals took third and Kody Bartling took fifth. Kuchta and Bartling’s efforts were not rewarded in the team score but could give coach Justin Bartling some options down the road.
Maverick Heine and Kenyan Wickre added some options at 138 pounds as well, with Heine winning the weight and Wickre placing second.
Brady Hochstein dominated at 165 pounds using two pins in under a minute each and a couple of major decisions to win his spot on the top of the podium and Brody Keinschmit made it a fourweight class-run at 175 taking the gold in that class.
Anson Noecker won a title in the 215-pound JV class.
Noecker used four pins and a major decision to win that weight class.
Scoring wrestlers as far as being included in the final team score must be designated by wrestler prior to the beginning of the tournament when a team features more than one wrestler in the weight class.
Cedar Catholic is slated to take on Battle Creek Dec. 11 then head to Crete for an invitational on Dec. 13.
